FAQ

Asking each other questions is a normal part of getting to know each other and establishing a sustainable partnership. Below are some questions I frequently receive to help you learn more about my work process. If this is your first time working with a copywriter or content writer, some of these questions might be able to help you.

1.

So...how do we get started?

Contact me and I'll set up a call with you to get started. If you prefer to communicate via email only, that's also fine. I will also ask you some questions to learn more about your organisation and project, house style and tone of voice.

To make sure my writing is aligned with your expectations, I will also need to know your objectives and goals, target audience and call-to-action.

Please also let me know if you have a preference on how the writing should be presented, what format your organisation uses and if I should avoid certain words/ topics/ phrases.

Depending on the nature of the project, you can also send further reading materials to help me get up to speed about your industry or project. I may also have to interview people before I can start writing.

2.

I have never briefed anyone before. What do I need to include in the briefing process?

Don’t worry, my briefing document covers the essential information I will need to get started. These include questions about your company and project, objectives and goals, your market, target audience behaviour and call to action.

If you already have a separate briefing document or meeting ready for me, that’s also fine. Based on the information you have provided, I may ask you a few more questions to make sure I fully understand your expectation to avoid miscommunication.

3.

How much do you charge for a copywriting project?

I charge a fixed project fee for one-off projects or a monthly rate for ongoing retainer packages. Each project is unique with different objectives and requirements.

My fee includes:

•    All communication, including meetings, calls and emails
•    Background research and strategic planning
•    Copywriting/ editing/ Chinese to English translation for the agreed work scope
•    Two rounds of revision based on your feedback.
•    Project management and admin

Contact me about your project details and I will work on a quote for you.

4.

The topic or industry I want you to write about isn't featured in your portfolio. Are you the right person to work with?

Working with customers from a wide range of industries, I take pride in writing for a diverse range of topics, including arts and culture, green finance, business, marketing, social innovation, population ageing, health and wellness and more. Even if your industry isn't featured in my portfolio, this means I will be writing from the perspective of new or potential customers.

This is a major plus for your project if you aim to:

  • Raise public awareness about your topic or industry

  • Expand your reach beyond existing customers and loyal fans

  • Educate customers about a complex topic in an accessible way

If this sounds like what you're looking for, contact me about your project and let's go from there.

5.

Is there anything that you don't write?

Yes, there is. I'd like to think I'm Wonder Woman of words. However, I'm not able to work on projects that require specific knowledge, such as legal, medical, technical and academic writing.

With that said, I have a bachelor's and master's degree in dance and theatre. So, I may be able to assist you with art-related topics, particularly with performing arts.

6.

Since you are a freelance writer, can you can start working for me right now?

As a solopreneur and freelance writer, I usually manage several projects at once. My working hours are structured in a specific way to ensure that I can deliver high-quality work for you on time.

If I have an immediate opening for you - then yes - we can start immediately! Otherwise, I will let you know when my next availability is and work with you to define an appropriate schedule for your project. Alternatively, if your project already has a predefined schedule, let me know as soon as possible so that I can factor this in when I plan my work schedule.

7.

I have an extremely urgent task; can you help me?

All good things take time. I highly recommend that you give me enough time to write something good. Because you deserve the best! But I understand urgent assignments do come up from time to time.

Rushed assignments will be charged a rush fee of 50% on top of the total cost. I will try my best to squeeze your job in to accommodate your schedule during my work hours.

Please don’t feel offended if I'm not able to accommodate your request this time. It just means my schedule is packed and I don't want to agree to something I know I can't commit to.

8.

Can you help me with an assignment over weekends, evenings or public holidays?

My weekends, evenings and public holidays are reserved as my own personal time. As a solopreneur, I have to take care of my overall health to make sure I can continue delivering high-quality writing for you.

My work hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. I can be reached any time during my work hours to support you and your team.

9.

How long is your turnaround time?

Depending on the complexity and scope of the project, it typically takes me three to five working days for small-scale projects and up to three weeks for complex projects. Once I am committed to delivering the work, I will ensure I can meet your deadline come rain or shine except for accidents or situations beyond my control. In this case, I will inform you immediately to come up with an alternative action plan.

10.

Can I change our agreed-upon work scope after we have started?

Project-based quotes are calculated based on the agreed-upon work scope. For retainer-based assignments, I may be able to absorb additional work if our current work scope can cover it. If there are any changes after I have started working, I’m more than happy to chat with you to understand the new work scope and discuss a new cost to accommodate for the additional work.

11.

Can I still change the writing after accepting the final version?

Once I have submitted the final draft, please reply to me via email to confirm you are satisfied with it. From there, I will submit an invoice and the project will be completed from my side. When I have received the payment, the writing is all yours – you can do whatever you want with it.

Requests to work on the document further will be treated as a new job. Hence, two rounds of revisions are included in all my quotes to make sure I get it right for you.

12.

What happens if I don’t like the first draft?

I'm very good at what I do, but I'm not perfect. My first drafts often come close to my customers’ expectations. In fact, revision is a normal part of the writing process. But don’t worry if that isn’t the case.

The first draft will give me a good starting point to understand what works, what doesn’t and what needs to be reworked. Then, I will revise the document based on your feedback. I highly value precise and constructive feedback, and I will continue to work closely with you to meet your expectation.

On the rare occasion, when a customer doesn’t think my writing hit the right spot, we usually part ways amicably. Check out #29 to 30 in my terms and conditions for more information.

13.

Who owns the copyright of the work?

Once payment has been received, the copyright of the original written work belongs to the client. For any editing or translation jobs, the copyright belongs to the original creator and the translated version will belong to the client as well. After a job is completed, I may include the final version of the work in my portfolio to showcase and celebrate what awesome work we’ve achieved together. I may also share the results with my online network to promote my services.

Check out points #33 to 37 in my terms and conditions for more information.

14.

What about confidentiality and privacy?

I'm a private person and I take confidentiality and privacy very seriously. I have not and will never compromise my partners in any circumstances. I will not share your contacts or any information about your project externally without your written consent. For further assurance, I am more than happy to discuss a confidentiality agreement.

15.

Can you help me with other creative services?

My skills and expertise are in copywriting, content writing, editing and digital marketing. I’d be happy to share my personal thoughts about your visual work. I'm also part of an extensive network of creative professionals. Tell me what you require, and I will put a team together for your project.
